Elizabeth Stamatina Fey (Tina) was born on May 17, 1970 in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, to Zenobia Xenakes and Donald Henry Fey, her mother worked as a brokerage employee and her father wrote grants for universities. Her mother is Greek, born in Piraeus, and her father had German, Scottish, and English background. Tina considered herself a nerdy type girl throughout high school and college. She studied drama at the University of Virginia. She graduated in 1992, and went to Chicago. Tina worked at YMCA to support herself, she started Second City's first set of courses. After nine months, a teacher told her to go ahead and audition for the more selective Second City Training Center. She didn’t make it but she re-auditioned and got into the one
