Elizabeth Of Hungary Religion

My confirmation saint is Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. She was born in Sarospatak, Hungary in 1207. Her parents were King Andrew of Hungary and Lady Gertude, countess of Andechs. At the age of four, they sent her to be educated at Landgrave’s court in Thuringia. Since birth, she was betrothed to his son, Prince Louis of Thuringia, who was also called Prince Ludwig.

It must have been difficult for her to grow up away from her family at such a young age. Thankfully, Louis was so kindhearted, he treated her like she was his younger sister. Since he was five years older than her, he felt responsible for her and looked after Elizabeth like a big brother would. She must have been grateful for that since most of Landgrave’s court hated her

After she gave birth to her fourth child, she was told that Louis had died in a crusade for the emperor. In this time of great sorrow, Louis’ brother saw this as an opportunity and cruelly drove her and her children to the streets. Elizabeth’s family was only able to provide her with a small house outside the city of Marurgh. Even through all this, she stayed faithful to God and still served the sick and poor, even though she herself was poor.

On November 19, 1231, Elizabeth died at the age of twenty four and many miracles happened at her grave. She was canonized a Saint by Pope Gregory the Ninth, four years after her death. She is traditionally represented dressed in rich clothes with roses and a couple loaves of bread in her mantle, representing her life. The rich clothes she wears represent her royal bloodline, the red and white roses represents the good and hard times in her life, and the loaves of bread represent her love and devotion to the poor. Elizabeth is the patron of people, hospitals, the poor, the sick, and the homeless.

I picked saint Elizabeth of Hungary as my patron saint because she has inspired me to love God with all my heart, no matter how bad life seems and to help others like the way Jesus did. She is a model for other Catholics by her love to God and of her devotion to the sick and

St Agnes was tortured for being a Christian in her time, it was against the law to follow Christianity. Although in Australia I can not go through what St Agnes did for being a Christian, many people around the world are still tortured, placed in jail and even murdered for simply being a Christian. A way that I can help is by writing a letter to the united nations raising awareness of the lack of freedom of religion around the world. I would ask them to work hard in the 6 countries that the American government marked as “countries of particular concern” for religious freedom violations. These countries include Iran, Burma, China, Eritrea, Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan.…

And so I remembered her much as I had last seen her more than one year earlier; sour-faced and spoiled” (12). Along with treating people badly and getting away with it, Elizabeth uses her political power to escape the plague-infested village.
