Elizabeth’s and John’s relationship had its ups and downs over the course of the book. Elizabeth was mad at him for most of the time and didn’t trust him because of what happened with Abigail. In Act 2 Scene 2 she lies in court for him, denies what the judge tells her about her husband’s affair and says that it’s her fault. Even after all he made her go through, she still loves him and wants to protect him.
In Scene 3 John is about to confess to witchcraft but then he changes his mind because he doesn’t want to lose the last thing he still has left –his name. The judges want Elizabeth to talk to Proctor and get him to sign his name. He’d rather die for his beliefs
