Elizabeth Griscom was born on New Year's day 1752. Known as Betsy to family and companions, she was the eighth of seventeen youngsters destined for Rebecca and Samuel Griscom. They lived in Philadelphia. Being solid/steadfast Quakers, they were exceptionally traditionalist. Betsy was totally instructed at a companion's Quaker school. It was in this Quaker school that she figured out how to upholster.
