Elizabeth Dole is an empowering woman who has been under the shadows of other figures for far too long. She has enlightened many women that they can do what men can and once they knew they could, she encouraged them. She was able to accomplish numerous of dreams that women all of the United States of America have ventured. She endeavoured to help as many people as she possibly could. Elizabeth Dole is a hero because of her struggles through politics, obstacles and dedication towards building an elementary school, and creating a foundation that would help military families.
Elizabeth Dole struggled quite a bit throughout her political experience. She was the Deputy Assistant of Richard Nixon in 1973, which lead her to becoming a Republican.

She strived to create an environment where children could learn and be taught how to become the future of America. In order to obtain enough money for her project, she had to start another fund. When she gathered all the money she needed, she got permission from the state in order to build it. At first the state had denied her, but she made a strong enough argument and got approval. The building took approximately three years to build and when it was time for inspections, the school building was denied the allowance to open. This did not stop Dole from continuing her project as she proclaimed that “we believe in the dignity of every life, the possibility of every mind, the divinity of every soul. This is our true North” which showed how much she wanted to help children start thinking about their future and start learning more efficiently at an early age, which had given her the motivation to never quit. With that, it took another six months to fix everything that went wrong inside and outside the building. The second time the school building got inspected, it was approved. It took another three months to fill the classrooms with furniture, paint the walls, and set for school opening. E Hanford-Dole Elementary School had its first students in August, 1999. As mentioned before, Dole created the Elizabeth Dole Foundation. The Elizabeth Dole Foundation is the preeminent organization that supports the United States of America 5.5 million military caregivers; the spouses, parents, family members, and friends who care for America’s veterans. The mission statement of the foundation is “Strengthen and empower America’s military caregivers and their families by raising public awareness, driving research, championing policy, and leading collaborations that make a significant impact on their lives” (Elizabeth Dole Foundation). This non-profit organization was founded in 2012, which works with leaders in the public, private, nonprofit and faith communities to give recognition to the caregivers of people in the military or veterans. Nevertheless the Foundation was launched, Dole has led the way in bringing crucial resources to help these hidden heroes. She stated that “the United States is the leader of the free world” which is the main reason why she wanted to recognize the caregivers, because their family members are fighting to make America the leader of the hopefully soon to be free world.
