Elite pitchers have been the story in Major League Baseball(MLB) this past season. Many pitchers were outstanding and fantastic all year, but there were two pitchers that set themselves apart from the rest by becoming the true elite pitchers, Clayton Kershaw and Jake Arrieta. Clayton Kershaw was brought into the MLB in 2006 by the Los Angeles dodgers. Being an already effective pitcher, Kershaw got drafted in the first round, getting the seventh pick overall. He would make his MLB debut on May 25, 2008. Jake Arrieta, on the other hand, would come a bit later. He would get drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 2007 and make his MLB debut on June 10, 2010. During the 2016 regular season, Clayton Kershaw performed like he was an elite pitcher putting up great numbers throughout the whole season. He posted an above average 1.69 ERA with a record of 12-4. He started 21 games for the Dodgers and was their best pitcher by far. On the other side, Jake Arrieta did not have as good an ERA. However, he still posted a great ERA of 3.10 with a record of 18-8. Arrieta started 31 games for the Chicago Cubs this past season and was their ace as well. Both these pitchers did their jobs being the best they could on game day. Jake was in the discussion for best in the league because of his astonishing numbers. While he pitched in 197 innings in the 2016 season, he put up an outstanding 190 strikeouts. Do the math and that is just over one strikeout per inning, which is very impressive. Arrietta may come at you a little differently than Kershaw but he gets the job done just the same way. He may start you off with a curveball or a changeup, but once you're behind, you know that all mighty sinker is coming. No one threw this pitch better than Arrieta this season. With a left to right movement of about two inches and a quick, abrupt downward movement of about five inches, Arrieta had his own unhittable
