Elisha is the son of Shaphat, Elijah's successor, and he's is first seen in Kings 19. Elijah first finds Elisha plowing a field, and throws his cloak onto Elisha. Elisha recognizes this as a call to follow Elijah and serve the Lord. Elisha says goodbye to his family and then he becomes Elijah's servant. Elisha stays with Elijah until Elijah is brought up into Heaven by a flaming chariot. Elisha succeeds Elijah and takes a double portion of Elijah’s spirit along with his mantle. She told him that Obadiah had died, and people are threatening to take away her sons as slaves, unless she paid the debts back. She only has one pot of oil so Elisha tells her to get as many pots to fill with oil as she can. The widow follows Elisha’s instructions and she begins to pour some oil into the first pot. The oil keeps filling pot after pot until they are all eventually filled. The people do not correct themselves and a famine comes just as Elisha foretold.

Later, Elisha has disciples following him, they go to Gilgal together. They need food, and one of them goes out to gather some herbs in the field. He comes back with some, but they were poisonous. Elisha asked for some of the food they were eating, and he poured it into the pot. Then he asks them to eat it. They do, and do not suffer from any side effects.

Later, a man comes from Baal-Shalisha in Mount Ephraim, bringing a present of food to Elisha. Elisha tells his servant to give the food to the people. There are hundreds of people there and only a small amount of food. The food is spread around and everyone gets enough even with some left over. Elisha is kind to everyone, even to outsiders.
