Elisa is an educator with a school district in North East Texas, a wife, and a mother of two young children. She was born in McAllen, Texas and shortly after her birth her family moved to Reynosa, Tamaulipas Mexico, where she was raised by her mother and father. She is the eldest child, with two younger siblings. Elisa has lived in North East Texas for about ten years now and is the only child that does not currently live in Reynosa, Tamaulipas Mexico. Although she communicates regularly with her parents and siblings, she does not get to visit with them throughout the year due to her profession, so she travels with her husband and children during the summer months to see her parents and siblings. Growing up in her home, Elisa and her family only spoke Spanish in the home as well as out in the community. Although she was born in McAllen, Texas the area and culture surrounding McAllen was predominately Spanish. Then living in Reynosa, Tamaulipas Mexico she was immersed in Hispanic culture, ways of life, and language.
Elisa went to elementary, middle, and high school in Mexico. There were basic English classes that Elisa was introduced to, in both elementary and middle schools, however she really didn’t get significant exposure to the English language until she was a teenager.
