In the novel Double Helix a man named Eli takes the reader on a journey where he learns who and what he is. On this quest to find out who he actually is, he faces some family obstacles and overcomes them in order to seek the truth. Eli himself is an 18 year old man who just graduated high school and plans on taking a year off of school to work at Wyatt Transgenics. Eli isn’t an ordinary person. He is extremely smart, unusually tall and extremely athletic. He has always known these things, but has worked to keep these things a secret. His mother on the other hand has a disease that is slowly killing her called Huntington’s disease. Eli visits her once a week in her nursing home. After Eli graduates high school he obtains a job at Wyatt Transgenics.

One day while working alone with the rabbits, one of them named Fufu escapes and leads him to an elevator that he doesn’t recognize. This is when Eli starts to develop curiosity about the connection between his family and his job. After taking a long time to think about the whole connection he starts to put together the puzzle pieces. He then realizes that Dr. Wyatt modified his genetics to make him HD negative. This is something that Eli’s mom requested and in return she gave the rest of her eggs to Dr. Wyatt so he could conduct further experiments. This is why Eli’s dad doesn’t like Dr. Wyatt because he felt as if he had a responsibility to take care of those eggs. One day while Eli was working he decides to investigate the elevator. When he is at the elevator, Kayla comes for the same reason. Not knowing they were both going to be there, they enter the elevator and proceed to the sub-basement. While in the sub-basement they find out that they are brother and sister and that Kayla has the HD marker. They also discover that Dr. Wyatt is illegally modifying the chromosomes of the eggs that Eli’s mother gave away. After this outrageous discovery, Eli ends up destroying Dr. Wyatt’s whole lab in a rage caused by what he learned about the
