Elijah Silvera was in his pre-K class when he was given something that appeared to be innocent to eat, except it turned out to be deadly a deadly food for the three-year-old boy.

According to PIX11, the New York child became deathly after he was fed a grilled cheese sandwich at Seventh Avenue Center for Family Services in Harlem.

The school had reportedly been warned about his severe dairy allergy, but he was still given the cheese filled sandwich which put the toddler into anaphylactic shock, costing Elijah his life.

A family member told PIX11 the school was made aware of Elijah's dairy allergy, which included providing supporting documentation.

The family member also claimed the boy's mother, not an ambulance, drove him to the hospital

We will get to the bottom of what happened here. In the meantime, we’re closing the Center for Family Services and continuing to aggressively investigate what happened and whether the facility could have done something differently to prevent this tragedy.

There are protocols that both the hospital and preschool must follow. We want to find out exactly what caused Elijah’s death and that will mean sorting out exactly where, if any, breakdowns may have occurred at either the school or the hospital. Having a third party medical examination will ensure our ability to get a clear picture.
