Religion 11 Essay Three hopeful themes in both Night, written by Elie Wiesel, and Life is Beautiful, written by Roberto Benigni, are bravery, the importance of family, and the use of lying to create hope. These three themes are seen often throughout the book and movie, especially in times of despair. Both book and movie take place during the Holocaust and center around a father and son attempting to survive. Bravery is often seen because bravery was needed to survive. If either of the main characters, Eliezer and Guido, were not brave they would not have survived the holocaust to the end. Sadly at the end of Life is Beautiful, Guido was murdered by a Nazi. His death displayed his bravery though because he was only murdered because he snuck his son, Giosue, out to try and get him to safety. Even in the beginning of the movie he showed bravery by going …show more content…
In both Night and Life is Beautiful, the struggle of the Holocaust is shown through a father and son. In Night, Eliezer and his father are surviving together while in Life is Beautiful, Guido and Giosue are together also. In a lot of the scenes we seeing how strong the bond of family is. In Night, Eliezer gave up guaranteed warmth and guaranteed extra food when he chose to stick by his father and attempt to nurse him back to health. He easily could’ve left his father to do by taking his clothes for extra warmth or getting food by stealing his rations. In Life is Beautiful, a really powerful scene is when Guido gets back to the barracks after a long day of work and while all he wants to do his eat and sleep, he gives up his ration of food for his son and stays up to continue their “game”. Another time we see how strong the bond of family is, even though it doesn’t involve a father-son bond, is when Guido’s wife and Giosue’s mother gives up her freedom so she can experience the Holocaust with her family and not be separated from

Night is an autobiography by Elie Wiesel, which chooses the Nazi Holocaust as the background. Eliezer is the narrator of Night and the stand-in for the memoir's author. Chapters 8 and 9 were the most depressing and remorseful for me, and it’s so worth to read. In chapter 9, “From the depths of the mirror, a corpse was contemplating me. The look in his eyes as he gazed at me has never left me”(p115)…

Learning about his Jewish religion is one of the things he loved most. He loved to study and learn about the Kabbalah with Moishe the Beadle. Elie Wiesel was living a good life as a Jewish boy until that one time when his whole life changed forever, that night. It wasn’t something that they were expecting because they just thought that Moishe the Beadle was going mad when he was explaining to them about the concentration camp. Elie Wiesel knew right away when his father came through the door and having that unbearable look on his face, he knew.…

The Book Night was intended to teach its readers the sorrow, horrors, and personal experiences of Elie Wiesel and the Holocaust itself. My poem has 1-2 titles and a couple of words and symbols to summarize the important symbols and representations of each chapter. I believe my poem does properly convey the message of the memoir. I can easily identify how smushed each Jew had to be to the millions of others, the rations of bread and the importantoce of soup made, the pipel boy or their Gods execution, and the immense loss of hope, and resurgance of it.…

The Monster Called Oppression: An Argumentative Analysis of Night Tragic events occur every day, but these events rarely hold the power to rattle the whole world. The Holocaust is one of the rare events that did manage to rattle the world and all of the people within it. In the novel Night, Elie Wiesel recounts the biographic story of his scarring excursion through the Holocaust. Elie starts by describing life before the war, and he gradually informs the reader of his experiences and the changes caused by the war.…

The literary devices used in the preceding passage show us not only the importance but the combination of images and their consequences give the preceding excerpt its considerable impact. As he reflects upon his horrific first night in the concentration camp and its lasting effect on his life, Wiesel introduces the theme of silence, his loss of faith in God and his own struggles and development. He uses anaphora, which involves the repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of a line or sentence, commonly known as a poetic device. It was used to emphasize the novel's major theme: to never forget. It is because he will never forget that he constantly struggles with not only his faith, which was essentially his entire world, but himself as well.…

Night v.s. Life Is Beautiful When discussing the Holocaust, there is a solemn feeling that lingers throughout the air. When describing the Holocaust it should be specific; having important dates and realistic actions. Both the film, Life Is Beautiful, and the novel, Night, are stories based off the Holocaust. Life Is Beautiful is a story about Guido and his family going through the Holocaust, while Night is a novel telling the story of Elie’s first hand experiences. In both stories, they experience the struggles of the Holocaust.…

In Life is Beautiful, the father-son roles stay the same, and the plot was more of a comedy and romance, and was mainly a story. Although they are similar stories, Night by Elie Wiesel is more effective at telling the story of the Holocaust because it offers more detail about what actually happened and shows the reality of it.
