Elie Wiesel's Night: Summary

On one hand, I feel happy that Elie and his father survived by the end. By the start of Chapter 7, about a hundred Jewish prisoners were transported via wagon. Only of those Jewish prisoners did twelve survive. Elie and his father were part of those twelve people. It felt good considering that most of the other Jews were letting their malicious and animalistic side take over. During that wagon ride, the Jews were killing each other over small pieces of food and other resources (ex. clothes). Taken into consideration that Elie and his father were still being civil and level-headed, I predicted that both of them would encounter immense danger. My prediction was true as Elie’s father was almost thrown off the wagon after people assumed he

When they arrived at the camp, Elie and his father were separated from the rest of their family. As Elie lost his faith in God, his father became the only source of hope and encouragement in his life. When they stopped in the abandoned village during their march to Gleiwitz, both Elie and his father would have succumbed to the cold and the temptation of sleep had they not been together. “I 'll watch over you and you 'll watch over me. We won 't let each other fall asleep.…

Another idea that was discussed during the film was that there were selections that determined what group of Jews were to be put to work and which ones were to be immediately killed or left in a room where they were starved and died from natural causes. Throughout the novel Elie talks about working alongside his father, but towards the end he mentions that his father was no longer working because he no longer had the strength to get things done. For instance, Elie’s father would tell him that when they would give him a ration of bread, other men would attack him and beat him until he gave his food up. In fact, a doctor that Elie asked to help his dying father told him that he should stop giving his ration of bread and soup to his father because at a place like this, there is no such thing as a father, brother, or friend because in the end, everyone dies alone (Wiesel, 110). Throughout the novel, Elie and his father were always beat and starved which was what the SS officials wanted.…

From the beginning of the book to the end of this section, it strikes me of how changed Elie and his Jewish companions have become. The instances when Idek attacks Elie for personal reasons, how Franek extorts Elie for his gold tooth, and how Elie lacks sympathy towards some Jews in some instances is part of a bigger picture in my eyes of how the Holocaust destroyed these civilized people to a state-of-nature-like beings. Elie also lacks sympathy for his father after being attacked by Idek, which I believe is part of a bigger picture of father-son roles. Elie mentions a few times in the memoir how sons had somewhat betrayed and disrespected their fathers.…

About 6 million Jews were killed during the Holocaust. The book Night written by Elie Wiesel is his account of what occurred to him and the others around him during the Holocaust. The Holocaust was the worst genocide in the world because the Nazis killed people of any age, the concentration camps had the worst possible conditions, and the Nazis treated the prisoners like animals. One reason the Holocaust was the worst genocide in the world is the Nazis killed people of any age. One piece of evidence that shows this is “They were burning something.…

I still wonder why Elie has not mentioned his father’s name. I still think he is trying to focus on his own perspective of the camps and the thoughts going through his head. The book has made me realize how hunger is only of the many causes for good people to do bad things. The harsh realities of the Holocaust were difficult to read about, but I am to not be oblivious to the fact that such events can…

Night: by Elie Wiesel I chose to do a book report on this book called: “Night” written by Eliezer Wiesel. The author, Eliezer Wiesel is an actual survivor of the Holocaust, and he endured the suffering of living in the Auschwitz labour camps. This book is a first hand memoir of the horrors and painful experiences Elie Wiesel had endured when he was only fifteen years old. Throughout the book, Elie describes his struggle to keep his faith in God, as he is unable to believe that a loving God could allow horrible things happen to his “chosen” people. The title of the book, “Night” , refers to the the darkness and silence that Elie went through as a teenager living in a concentration camp.…
