Elie Wiesel's Dawn Character Analysis

“More evil gets done in the name of righteousness than any other way.” (Glen Cook). The book Dawn, by Elie Wiesel is about a nineteen year old Jewish man, Elisha, who becomes a terrorist in Palestine after surviving the Holocaust. The war is for the independence of Palestine from the British, and mostly to show that others will no longer terrorize Jews. He is to execute an English officer, John Dawson, at dawn, but he faces ghosts, guilt, and his past. Elisha chooses his path by reasoning with hate. With so much violence and chaos, no one is truly a hero, but Elisha is mentally a victim.
Making a choice to kill a man who doesn’t know why he is dying isn’t easy. Elisha wasn’t certain why he was killing Dawson either. Making the right decision
