Elie Wiesel Elie Wiesel is a Romanian-Jewish author who is best known for conveying his story through his books and for being a political activist. He is also known for helping people who survived the Holocaust of World War. Elie Wiesel was born on 30 September 1928 in the town of Sighet, Transylvania, now a part of Romania (Elie Wiesel Biography) He grew up with his Father and Mother. Their names were Shlomo Wiesel and Sarah Feig. Wiesel was encouraged by his father to learn modern Hebrew literature, and his mother encouraged him to study the sacred Jewish texts (Elie Wiesel Biography). He also had three sisters named Hilda, Beatrice, and Tzipora. Elie Wiesel accomplished a great deal in his life as well. Some may call him hero. Elie Wiesel is a modern day hero because he survived the Holocaust, he is a voice for other Holocaust survivors, and he was rewarded for his work. He won numerous awards and medals for the great things he has done for humanity. Elie was rewarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 for his testimony and being “a messenger for mankind” (The Nobel Peace Prize for 1986). He was also awarded many other prestigious awards such as the Ingram Merrill award, the Medal of Liberty, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Star of Romania, National Humanities Medal, the Nadav award, Jewish Heritage award, the Congressional Gold medal, and many more. He even became an honorary knight. He earned all these honors and awards for his writings, his political activism, and for his foundation. Even though not every hero is recognized and rewarded for his good deeds, when they are rewarded, it is clearly for a good reason. Elie Wiesel was rewarded these honors because he has obviously done good to earn
