Decent Essays
Eli Lilly and Company is looking to expand their product line by acquiring a smaller company. This engagement looks into the public, legal, and financial statements of Sorrento Therapeutics. We are limited as we only have access to what Sorrento Therapeutics has released to the public. The major steps involved with this engagement consisted of doing our due diligence to research the company. This included looking into the values and ethics of the company and making sure that they were a good fit for Eli Lilly. Another part of our due diligence was to make sure that Sorrento Therapeutics had no outstanding legal issues. The final step of our due diligence was to make sure Sorrento Therapeutics was not in debt or financially plummeting.

My final recommendation to EpiPen is to hire a great team of lawyers and new accountants. They should employee forensic, government and cost accountants, as wells as an auditor to go through the financials. These types of accounts will dig through the financial reports and find where the company is liable. The cost accountant will develop viable reasons for the price increase by conducting a profitability analysis. They will examine all of the direct and indirect cost related to the company.…

Martin Shkreli, CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals, recently became one of the most hated CEOs in America. After his company acquired the rights to Daraprim, a drug relied upon by patients with weak immune systems (AIDS), he raised the price over 5,000%, from $13 to $750 a pill. Shkreli’s reasoning for the sudden rise in price was that the extra money received would be put towards research and development, and it was only fair since other pharmaceutical companies have made similar price hikes. As he put it on twitter, he is a capitalist who “plays to win”. After the extreme backlash from the media, Shkreli has promised to lower the price to an “affordable level”.…
