Soon a soft beep alerts us that the elevator is ready. The Glossy Black Doors with their silver stripes part and reveal a roomy elevator. The same marble that lined the halls of the lobby and the second floor lines the walls of the elevators as well. Once in the elevator you notice there are only 7 floors of access, from this elevator at least. Floors 79 through 86 are the only floors accessible from this elevator but, the buttons are seemingly useless as the attendant has control of the elevator from an exterior panel. Once in the elevator the next surprise is the speed of the elevator. It’s a sensation that is felt as the ride is very smooth and comfortable, the only indication of your speed is from the red LED floor indicator hovering above the door. The elevator moves so fast the LEDs don’t have the pace to indicate every floor you pass. In total the travel time is 78 floors in roughly 57 seconds. This steady nine and a half mile per hour pace accelerates to the eightieth floor in the same time it takes the prerecorded audio message about the Observation Deck to complete. Once the trip is completed the silver mesh doors part once again and I move out onto the eightieth floor known as the Dare to Dream Exhibition. This floor contains display after display of a rich New York history and lineage. Interestingly enough most people including myself continued past these exhibits with pace as it seemed it wasn’t what they or I had come for. I made way through the eightieth floor to the next series of elevators which were located at the opposite end of the wrapped corridor that I was initial deposited into. This hall had a similar feel the second floor with its maze of red velvet ropes enveloping the hall zigging from left to right and back. What’s changed is the energy that exists in the 80th is much greater than what was seen on the 2nd. Here there is a buzz and people
