The book has stronger ethos comparing with the movie because Nazario has committed herself into the entire experience of an immigrant from central America trying to enter the United States illegally. For instance, she really went on the train, and she took the risk of going to the chaotic country border. Not only Nazario’s experience allows her to record a more thorough observations about the life of immigrants, but also increases her credibility, making the audiences more likely to consider her writing are authentic. Also, the book presents a more consistent story comparing with the movie because it only focuses on the story of Enrique. The audiences can have a deeper understanding about immigration because they will not be distracted by other storylines, and Enrique’s story can reflect the issue immigration in detailed, allowing the audiences to analyze the significance of immigration more thoroughly.
