Hawthorne’s Romanticism Romanticism is a style of writing that Puritans’ put great use to. Nathaniel Hawthorne is a well-known author who incorporates romanticism into his work to help support his themes. Three romanticism characteristics are evident in 2 of Hawthorne’s short stories. The first story that provides evidence of romanticism that supports the theme by Nathaniel Hawthorne is “Rappaccini’s Daughter”. “Rappaccini’s Daughter” is about a man who raises his daughter off the poison of plants as an experiment. The romantic characteristic is the profound love of nature that drives the father to do such an experiment.
