Of those, twenty were executed by barbaric methods including being crushed with stone, drowning, and being dropped from a ceiling until their shoulders were dislocated. The trials were fueled by the hysteria of witchcraft in the 17th century and made citizens oblivious to the fact of what could actually be going on with these people. Art has always been a profoundly unique human catalyst for expressing hope, inspiration, communication, and passion. As one of the darkest events in human history, the Holocaust (1933-1945) served as the story that suffering artists needed to share with the world. Show them to the people.” Though the Holocaust is one of the most tragic events in human history, it is incredibly important that the stories of the dead, and survivors alike, were shared through the power of artists.…

I also find it interesting how the concept of empathy plays into acting. Alfreds mentions this notion as “emphatic imagination” (page 243), and writes that great actors can relate to almost any character despite given limited dialogue. I never thought about acting this way before, but I agree that empathy truly has to be associated with good performances. We always take a character’s world, circumstance, mental state, emotions, attitudes, suffering, neurosis, etc., into account when we try to portray him/her, therefore tapping into our ability to empathize.…
