Throughout my life I’ve been faced with adversity. In regards to my education, I am the first person in my family to receive my Bachelor’s Degree. Because no one else in my family understands the struggle of being in college, it is often difficult to get advice from them or even have them understand my struggles. I also work three jobs to pay my college tuition bill, in an attempt to borrow as little money as possible from the government. On a regular day I wake up at 6 am and head to my first job, as a babysitter. Once that is finished, around 9, I go straight to my daytime job. I work hand in hand with other doctors, insurance companies, attorneys, court reporters, state employees and patients. I’ve learned how to speak to each in a professional and appropriate manner, whether it is over the phone or in person. I also gained a lot of people and communication skill development through my extensive training and time spent working for Walt Disney World. With people from all over the world visiting daily, we had to find a way to make each guest happy and want to come back. In the school setting I have great people skills with my professors and college counselors. I treat them with the utmost respect and admire the authority and experience they bring to the classroom. When becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor I hope to enhance my communication skills to better suit the client target market I am working with. I think LaSalle and the classes they offer will provide me with the tools necessary to make a positive impact on each client’s
