It’s the place that made me the woman I am today. It’s where I found role models I would keep in my thoughts for the rest of my life. I do think my microcosm of a school does reflect some larger issues in our society. I believe there’s an issue in teaching our youth just one way to believe, especially in a situation where there's not one right answer. We have to let our children decide their own paths and formulate their own opinions through personal experiences. The more we shove our own ideas down their throats, the more they will reject it and never even decide what they truly want. I think this is an issue not only in society at large but in education. We can’t force our teachers to teach one side of every story. Texas shouldn’t force their teachers to tell students that god created the world in seven days and deny those students from learning about the big bang theory. Just as my second grade teacher empowered me, we should empower our students with the confidence to think for themselves and decide their own
