Professional Philosophy of Education
The position in education I would like to have would be an elementary school librarian in the public school system. Working in the public school system will allow me to work with a more rounded group of students. After some investigation about the position of a librarian in a public school, most people believe it is a job to which is becoming extinct. According to Karen Bromley (2011) in Learning About the Endangered Librarian, librarian positions are being cut because of shrinking budgets and saving tax dollars. Even though the post is falling by the wayside, it is still critical to the educational system. A librarian should have many qualities, including compassion, flexibility, creative, patient,

Teachers, students, and parents need to be on the same page concerning behavior expectations of the class. The establishment of rules and conditions concerning behavior need to be set, whether positive or negative. According to Ratcliff, Jones, Costner, Savage-Davis & Hunt (2010) in The Elephant in the Classroom: The Impact of Misbehavior on Classroom Climate, classrooms are small complex societies, where teachers and students interact with each other. The students’ academic and social growth are determined by the interactions between the teacher and students and between students and other students (p. 306). The communication dynamics within this small society can determine whether or not the learning objectives are obtainable throughout the school year. The teacher must be constantly aware of what is working and what’s not and adjust communication practices to make the learning experience …show more content…
For about eight years I was employed doing data entry for two different companies. Data entry has been a great benefit in the library currently. We are implementing a new computer system and have to input every book manually. It is a slow and tedious process, and my experience has benefitted me greatly. The next eight years I stayed home, raising my two daughters and babysitting. Raising my girls and babysitting gave me experience with younger children that has served me greatly at the school. For four years before we moved to Idaho, I worked at Target, in the women’s department and fitting room. This experience helped me with organizational skills and having a keen eye on how the floor could look for the customers. At the elementary school, I can make the library look how I want, which includes moving the bookshelves around to give it a more welcoming feel. My school experience is giving me a new lease on life. I am finding that I can juggle home, school, and work. My courses are clearing the dust and cobwebs, and focusing mentally on something vital to

Schools definitely should encourage appropriate behavior by reinforcing good morals, values and respect for authority, but the responsibility of instilling those values in the minds of students lies with the parents. If these values are not initially taught in the home, school officials can rarely succeed in convincing a child of their worth. Most children behave the way they see their parents behave. If their parents treat others with respect and kindness, the students will likely do the same.…

Playing Make Believe It is three thirty on a monday afternoon as I board my yellow bus to go home after a day of school at Herbert Hoover Elementary. I walked through my front door, threw my blue butterfly backpack onto the hook, and ran directly up to my room. At the time, it could be more accurately referred to as my classroom. Inside yellow and blue painted walls with a chalkboard and cliche classroom posters, I taught my class of invisible students the exact same lesson Mrs. Molle taught that day in my first grade class.…

Desire to Teach I made the decision to become a teacher my junior year in high school. As a part of my high school’s service learning program, we were required to work at a community agency for eight weeks. I did my service work at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Louisville. I loved working with the students there, and because I loved it so much I decided to pursue a career in teaching because I wanted a job that I would love to go to every day. As an extension of the service- learning program, I also worked with Visually Impaired Preschool Services and Kentucky School for Blind.…

A school-wide discipline and behavior management plan needs to be implemented at the classroom level and at the school building level to include all common areas of the school. Students must have their social, emotional, and behavioral needs met before they are prepared for learning. Dr. Knoff reminds us that “the single top predictor of academic achievement is a positive classroom climate that is conducive to learning—students getting five positive interactions for every negative interaction” (The Research Base Week 1). This means that the school-wide discipline plan must focus on positive behavior supports and teaching students and staff the skills that they need to ensure a positive classroom culture, positive interpersonal relationships,…

Key Assessment This summer I took both 2120 and 2130 simultaneously. I completed forty hours of field experience between the Next Generation site in Dawsonville, and the Summer Language Camp program in Hall County. I was only able to complete ten of my hours at the Next generation site, while I did the majority of my work in Hall County, so for the sake of clarity in this paper I will mostly reference and draw from my experience with the Summer Language Camp. Through my experiences this summer I have learned a lot about classroom dynamics, the student motivation, and social development. I observed teachers that were both professional, yet passionate about their student’s success and emotional wellbeing.…

There are lots of learner characteristics that would affect my classroom management plan, as different groups of students, and individuals have different needs. I think that the most significant areas to look at when it comes to learners is how each student is very different when it comes to learning styles, and multiple intelligences (MI) and how I can plan based on these needs, as well as societal influences, and misbehaviours of students. It is important to take into consideration the students learning styles because each student will have a way that they learn best (Burden, 2006). This preferred style of learning should be used, but I will also implement different learning styles for the student to further develop their tool box.…
