Elementary School Field Experience

Improved Essays
This week for field experience we returned to Waterville Community Elementary School. It was my third week observing Mrs. Bacon, one of the kindergarten teachers, and I learned something new every time. I enjoyed these three visits and they helped show me what teachings is like in real life. I feel like I did basically the same thing every week so it’s getting difficult to write something new. Since we go at the same time each week they are always doing the same activities. It is a very structured schedule and involves a lot of learning letters and sounding out words. I know this is important for young students to learn, but it doesn’t make the class time very interesting. However, observing Mrs. Bacon did teach me how to handle class management

This week in field was not too busy, but was busy enough to allow me to experience and complete new tasks. Although the tasks completed this week were not very challenging, they allowed me to come in contact with some of the competency skills. Competency skill 9 was re-introduced from last week. I was to report to the Arthurtown site and intern under the supervision of Ms. Julia. Ms. Julia had me continue to sort through employee files; looking for forms any of the teachers may have been missing or needed to update.…

Introduction: How Children Succed p.xiii&xv In this introduction I was surprised on how they are having three year olds filling out worksheets and completing drills on letter and number recognition (Tough, 2013, p.xiii). I did notice when my son went to transitional kindergarten that what was expected from him was what a kindergarten back then would be learning. When he went to kindergarten he was expected to know more than what I remember was required before.…

Throughout much of the research I did regarding the diversity within Harrisonburg High School, I found that many of the numbers accurately depicted what I saw during my first Field Experience. Harrisonburg High School as well as Harrisonburg city in general, are very diverse areas and are home to a plethora of different people with various backgrounds. The graphs above are just a small portion of the great variety of people who attend Harrisonburg High School. The first graph illustrates the different ethnicity groups the students of Harrisonburg High are a part of. The data was collected by the school district and only includes six subgroups, one of which has a population of zero (Hawaiian).…

Over this past spring semester, I have obtained a total of 75 hours of field experience in the CCC Childcare UPK 1 classroom. My overall impression of the experience is that it truly exposed me to what it’s like caring for and teaching young children, and all the responsibility that accompanies it. I truly enjoyed my time in the UPK 1 classroom and after being there six hours a week, sometimes more, I feel a genuine connection to these children and the classroom. This entire experience taught me a lot, not only about early childhood education, but about myself and what I’m capable of. Working with four and five year olds opened my eyes to a way thinking that I had lost.…

On a sunny and windy day at Brownsville, Texas, Mrs. Diana Bryant, a geography teacher at Brownsville Early College High School executes her job and shares her knowledge as if it was the last day of her life, always with a positive attitude and a warm smile. Mrs. Bryant starts her day as usual; preparing a teaching schedule, having the materials needed to teach her subject, but most importantly she manages to create a learning ambiance of education, comfort, and entertainment where her students thrive to learn at their fullest. In a big, warm, and cozy classroom, I could see how Mrs. Bryant combined art and geography as I noticed the different global climate posters drawings covering the white walls. On her desk, a decorative candle diffused…

Field observations have always been a time for me to notice how things are done in the classroom, interact with the students, and unfortunutally, determine what I do not like in terms of methodology. However, all of that has changed this semester. My host teacher, has been an amazing example and understands that you learn by doing, and that is what is done in her classroom. Beginning on the first day, I was given the opportunity to teach the students and from then forward, I have taught at least one class a day. Though, throughout the times that I have not been in the lead position, I have noticed very strong teacher-student interactions.…
