Elementary Classroom Observation

The center I observed was at Grace Lutheran Preschool in Pottstown, I observed eight three and four year olds while they were in Grace Explorers for the day. The room was the size of an average classroom with one teacher teaching the students’.
In the classroom I observed I did see the student’s names in many locations around the room, whether it was on the bulletin board or on the walls of the classroom. There were many labels in the classroom that talked about different procedures for the students’ to follow with labels that were child dictated. They have the daily schedule put up next to the calendar with the times and places they will be going. There are announcements outside of the classroom door telling the parents about what they did during the day and news

There are many different genres of books out for the children to see and read, there aren’t many students with different cultures in the classroom, but there are many books that talk about the different cultures. There are different recording tools in the classroom, but aren’t put out for the children always to record events or ideas they may have, such as pencils or paper out and neither are references for the students to look at. I didn’t see much of print or writing segments related to the nearby materials in the classroom, but there is a lot of space filled with the student’s art work at their eye level. There aren’t many prints in the classroom for the students, except for schedules and their artwork. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a word wall in the classroom, which I feel would be much better for the students in the classroom especially for their ages. There are many things that could be added to this classroom environment, starting with a word wall, I believe this would really help enhance the student’s literacy and support them in the classroom. I would include the many things that this classroom, unfortunately lacked such as poems, and posters for the students

It was a very cool experience, since I don’t remember P.E. classes back when I was young. One thing I enjoyed was the teacher’s enthusiasm when the students walked into the gym. He welcomed each student with a smile and with excitement.…

Constructivism is believed to be a way of learning where children engage with their environment to create their own understanding of the world. From day to day we encounter various smells, sights, sounds, textures, and tastes. All of these encounters allow for children to develop ideas and solve problems through their environment. You can find the use of constructivism in just about any childhood education classroom. Compared to a traditional teaching setting, where information is given and children are expected to understand, a constructivism setting would allow for personal thought and problem exploration.…
