For my observations this semester, I am observing Mrs. Debbie Clay’s 8th grade US history class. Mrs. Clay is the head of the social studies department at Brink Jr. High in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This school is one of the top junior highs in the state. Though her room is quite small, Mrs. Clay effectively utilizes the space she has. Desks are arranged in rows and columns, with one set of desks facing directly towards the front, and another set facing towards the front at a slight angle. A Smart Board is mounted at the front of the room, with the attached computer setting to the side on a desk. Adjacent to the computer desk lies another desk, which Mrs. Clay actually uses as her desk. On the opposite side of the teacher’s desks lies the aid’s desk. One of the walls has an old fashioned chalkboard that runs the length of the wall. Attached to this …show more content…
The Opposite wall has a couple file cabinets, a set of shelves, and a table with a printer against it. The back wall has more maps, a couple of history related posters, another filing cabinet, and another shelf. The school lies on the outskirts of Oklahoma City, so there is some diversity in student body, but not as much as much as could be seen elsewhere. The lesson Mrs. Clay presented was not specific to any one race or ethnic group and could have been taught in a variety of different schools (Diversity: Competency 11a.) As could be expected for in an experienced teacher’s class, the students appeared to be quite well behaved. They were free to ask questions throughout the

On Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 1635 hours, I was contacted at home by Sergeant Bernard Hopkins to respond to 15950 North Civic Center Plaza #1013 to conduct a homicide investigation. At 1730 hours, I arrived and was eventually briefed by Sergeant Dalton #5174 of the circumstances of events up to that point. After the briefing Sergeant Hopkins assigned me to conduct the crime scene investigation. The classroom was originally secured by Phoenix Police Department prior to the search warrant being signed. Discussion As outlined previously, there were 3 domains from the CLASS use to conduct observations on a teacher and children in a preschool classroom. The 3 domains used to conduct the observations are Emotional support, Classroom organization, and Instructional Support. The Pre-K CLASS has 10 dimensions that are scored on a 7 point scale, from low to high with a score of 1 and 2 consider being in the low range; 3, 4, and 5 are mid-range; and 6 and 7 are a high range. In general, the quality of the classroom was very positive, in the middle-high ranges. As you can see from Table 1, there were multiple scores of 5 and 6 such as in the positive climate, teacher sensitivity, regard for student perspectives, behavior management, productivity,…

This reflection will link the biases that I discovered during the cultural and diversity surveys, with the observations and interactions I made during several clinical field experiences in Mr. Lewis’s 4th grade mathematics class. The survey results provided biases in the areas of language communication, racial/ethnic considerations, and cultural diversity. Recognizing these biases prior to performing clinical field experiences helped influence my interactions with the students, teachers, and school administrators. Over the course of this reflection, I will provide specific student interactions relevant to each bias and explain how I approached each situation with the biases in mind. Phenix City School District does not allow the use of English Language Learner’s (ELL) primary language during the general classroom instruction.…

In the Pre-K classroom that I observed it consisted of several different centers for the children to participate in, such as: block area, dramatic play, art, library, sand/water table, music/movement, sensory area, finger painting, play dough, and the students got the opportunity to make their own snacks. Not only did the students get to participate in centers, they had the opportunity each day to go outside and play on the playground as well as having an interactive lecture every morning at circle time and when the students sat down at their tables to do their daily worksheet. I believe that the Pre-K class I observed was a mix between traditional teaching as well as constructivism, creating a balance between the two. In the morning during circle time, the teacher would “lecture” the students with the letter of the day, go over the date, months, days of the week, shapes, and the numbers up to the date it currently was.…

On my first day of observing Mrs. Albita’s 4th grade classroom, I first noticed how she selected the student that would write the objective for the day. Mrs. Alba has a jar with popsicle sticks that contain the names of all the students in her class. She selects one stick and that student is responsible for writing the class objective correctly. First the student has to listen to the teacher carefully. Next, the student writes down what he/she heard.…

Every Monday and Wednesday, my afternoons are spent on the 900 block of West Union Blvd in West Bethlehem, PA. However, to be more specific the location of my field experience is Nitschmann Middle School. The school is located in the westside of the city of Bethlehem which tends to be a little more suburban in comparison to the rest of the Bethlehem Area School District. Certainly, after school there are some students that do not travel far to get to school, some houses are seconds away from the school. Before arriving at Nitschmann Middle School I already had some preconceived notions about the school.…

I can empathize with teachers who say that the observation and evaluation process does not seem reciprocal in nature. Most of my follow-up evaluations have either been waived or conducted in five minutes or less in which the principal hits upon the highlights of my observation. Very few teaching lessons have been learned through these interactions. In her article though, Shelly Arneson includes sound practices that can be implemented to alleviate many of the concerns of the evaluation process. Her basic premise is to shift the dialogue from inspection-based conversation to a reflection-based conversation.…

I completed my ten-hour class observation at the private school Georgia Military Prep. The Georgia Military Prep School is located on Georgia Military College’s main campus in Milledgeville. At GMC prep I observed Ms. Jennifer Spencer's advanced eighth grade math class. Ms. Spencer has a decidedly pleasant air about her, a quick smile, and a brisk step that belies her ‘let us get the job done’ type attitude. On my first day observing her class, I soon gathered that Ms. Spencer always has a goal in mind when she sets foot in the classroom.…

SEP #4 In my observation of a Kindergarten class, there were many different teaching methods used. The teacher used many visual aids, and example would be when she asked the students to draw a pig. She displayed a pig on the board that was drawn by a guest speaker, and the students were asked to replicate the drawing. The teacher I observed also used games to enhance the student’s learning.…

The computers were located along the back wall of the room and it was very tight in that space due to a table being right next to them. She had stations set up for toys, books, a train set, sand, and white boards. The students had easy access to them and had no trouble being around each other.…

Throughout the course of my five days at the SAHETI primary school, I found myself astonished at various activities that are done throughout the day. Through the course of my practical, I was given a Grade two class to observe and I unquestionably discovered a recently developed love for that age group. I was always adamant from the first time I knew I wanted to become a teacher that I wanted to teach Grade one’s, but my thoughts have definitely evolved. During the course of my observing I was more than willing to help with various activities such as marking, doing spelling tests with the children, as well as helping them with any difficulties they were having with their work.
