The Coast Guard has seen a rise in current C4IT casualties that have excessively long repair times. This can be directly attributed to lack the of quality training provided at “C” school or absence of it entirely. As noted in USCGC Legare’s casrep 15072, the entire division never received formal training for the equipment they’re responsible for. If they had received some formal training in basic theory and operation they could have provided a better diagnosis and used actual technical data while troubleshooting the system. This could have led to a …show more content…
It directly correlates to the unit’s ability to effectively conduct critical preventative maintenance to minimize and early diagnosis casualties before they happen. Looking at USCGC’s Forward casrep 15100, the technician onboard was told of several failures within the NAVMACS II system during a groom. If the technician would have received the proper training in conducting preventative for that system they would have noticed the degradation and several failures within that system. This valuable experience in training could easily save the Coast Guard thousands of dollars in scaling bi-annual grooms for equipment and save on travel costs to coordinate technical
