Nursing informatics is a growing field that involves technology to improve and advance the quality of care for patients. It includes a synthesis of information encompassing concepts of computer science and nursing science (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2015). The FierceHealthIT website allowed me to search current topics that impact nursing informatics. A topic that is current and trending on FierceHealthIT related to nursing informatics is The Electronic Health Record (EHR). This paper will discuss my personal rationale for choosing the topic of electronic health record, analyze the impact on practice in a positive manner, explore pros & cons, integrate informatics skills and knowledge used, and suggest recommendations for the future of electronic health records.
Electronic Health Record (EHR) The current topic that is trending in the HealthIT website is the electronic medical record. I chose this topic of electronic health record because it has changed health care and in more depth of change in nursing care. This is a current change that was incorporated in the past years and has been evolving, making a difference in the nursing profession. Nurses have transitioned from paper charting to computer documentation. This topic has involved the government to step in and make changes. President George W.
