Relative Advantage Relative advantage is showing the person adopting the new technology why it is better than what they currently have (Rogers, 2003). To use relative advantage I would have …show more content…
I would do as Gruber, Puccia and Kadric (2010) suggest and explain how the new EHR will actually take less time completing, which leaves more time for their patients. I would explain how the new system will actually increase workflow by centralizing charting, orders, medication administration record (MAR), patient history, and documentation. I would demonstrate how time can be saved with all of the multidisciplinary teams being able to come together more easily and with all information available in one place. This is where I make sure it is clear why implementation of the EHR is necessary and what it means to the hospital. I would meet the resistance with clear pictures of how the new process will fit in with the current workflow and offering tips on how to realign their habits to encompass the new …show more content…
To the meeting I would bring the training class times and the list of availability of the computer rooms for additional practice. I would have already had installed a practice realm that they could go in and explore on each computer. To the meeting I will bring job aides on each section of the system, so that they can read it before class and come up with questions to be addressed. Emails and phone numbers of resource people will be made into badge cards so they will always have that information handy. I will have signs made that can be posted around the units with helpful hints and “Did you knows?”. I will let the nurses know that questions and suggestions will all be addressed. There will be rewards available for the spotting of any errors such as misspellings or typographical errors. The hospital will provide small perks such as free coffee from the café, or credit to use in the gift shop or cafeteria to good ideas that are implemented in the future.
Observable Results
Rogers (2003) says that observable results is when the adopter has been shown that the process has been proven successful in other places. I can bring studies and results from other similar hospitals, but the studies are limited at this time. Cresswell and Sheikh (2009) suggest the use of social peer networking to promote the sharing of ideas and experiences. This could go both ways though
