Electroencephalogram: The Day That Changed My Life

When someone wakes up in an ambulance, when the last place they thought they were was in their kitchen, helping make dinner, fear tends to strike them in the heart. I know this because that’s what happened to myself. The memory itself is very fuzzy, even at the present day, years later, I have no memory of that entire day except making dinner with my family and what happened after I woke up in the ambulance. The day I was first diagnosed with Grand mal seizures was a rough one. I woke up in an ambulance,vision blurry and my head was pounding. I heard a man’s voice and what sounded like he said that my mom was right behind us. After that things went black and next thing I know I woke up in a hospital room with a doctor right in front of me. …show more content…
but I can’t blame him for not understanding what he didn’t know. Soon I got out of fourth grade and into 5th grade. My teacher, Mrs. Denekamp, was much more patient and learned with my family so she could understand more and find ways for me to do better as well. As time went on, I went to appointment, after appointment, after appointment. I had EEG’s (Electroencephalogram) which is a test that measures and records brain activity. Every EEG showed little improvement; but finally we went in one day, took an EEG and when we got the results, they were normal. The absence seizures were finally stopping. They slowly took me off medication as more tests came up normal. I had the odd one or two spells now and then and even now I catch myself but I get better grades and have friends that I wouldn’t trade for anything. This part of my life was filled with ups and downs and has both affected me positively and negatively but I wouldn’t go back and change it. Whenever I get down about doing something wrong or stressing out over a problem, I think back to when I really struggled and I push forward knowing that I can handle
