Within Electra Products we can able to see a company that has different ways of thinking of the future of the business. The employees believe that the old ways that they have been creating these products for 20 years are the right way. Where as the CEO believes that a new fresh way of thinking could bring the company into the 21st centaury. According to the Contingency Theory first researched and described by psychologist Fred Fielder, there is more than one effective way of leading. Leadership is a trait that can be learned but is the practice of being able to focus on people and tasks to create a balanced medium within the organization. This can be a positive for both the employee and the Managing directors as they are able to see the issues from the shop floor that may not have been able to have been fixed if not brought to the attention from this exercise. Many of the older employees may struggle with the changes made to the company as they have had success in creating a profit and establishing a good brand recognition. We see this through some of the employees mocking the new ideas of empowerment. This leadership style in an organization can be bad as we do not have the backing of the employees. This would mean that we do not have the ability to implement procedures made from upper management levels. We need to have both the employees and the directing managers on the same page when it comes to the direction of the Business. The men in the company are used to one style of leadership which has lead to the success of the business. This is then contrasted with the females of the business who are looking for new and fresh idea that will lead to a business that flourishes. According to Management the Essentials, they say that women speak and hear with a language and connection compared to men who speak to maintain independence and to convey a status of hierarchy. This can be a problem within an organization as we see this decline in unity between different sex’s. For a business to work you need multiple perspectives from genders to come up with ideas that are going to have the best positive impact. A study done in Australia shows that we should address originality within an organization as at the moment diversity within an organization is not fully understood. We misconceive the idea of work place unity to just be a group of people working towards a goal. Work place unity is creating an environment that is both pleasurable to work in and is also successful in completing tasks in an efficient way.
