In 1792 John Adams became president and he was in the Federalist Party. The Federalists supported the proposed constitution. In 1800 Thomas Jefferson became president as a Democratic-Republican. Democratic-Republicans believed that the constitution was strict and that it limited the powers of the government. They believed that the government did not have the right to accept more additional powers to fulfil its duties under the constitution.

Alexander Hamilton was a very famous member of the Federalists party
