Election Cycle In America

Decent Essays
Introduction The time has come once again to choose the leader of the free world. Every four years the United States of America has the privilege of electing someone (only men so far) to become one of the most powerful people in the world. Electing the President of the United States (POTUS) has always been an important task. However, this election cycle feels differently. Perhaps it is because everyone on social media is talking about it. It could be America’s dissatisfaction with the political system. It could be the fact that the candidates themselves have a very high disapproval rating (Yourish). It may also be that a lot of issues hang in the balance, or because it is the first time a woman is nominated for POTUS by a major party. Whatever the reasons are, everyone seems keenly aware that this is an important election. …show more content…
The people will choose a direction for the country on many issues. Anywhere from the war on terror to climate change. The person leading the way will either be businessman Donald J. Trump or former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. There is a case to be made for and against both candidates, depending on what issues or qualifications are important to the voter. However, there are some things that a voter cannot overlook. America needs and deserves a president that cares and wants to help people. The second thing needed in the president of the United States is experience; the ability to run the most powerful country in the world. Goals are meaningless if one does not know how to achieve them. With Secretary Clinton, America will get a person with compassion and a leader with a plan. Clinton has a clear vision for preserving our environment and improving a very flawed tax system. Secretary Clinton may not be the person to lead the revolution many were hoping for, but she will be the person working tirelessly to make the lives of Americans

Hillary Clinton’s resume for POTUS, is greatly better than Trumps’, since Clinton has served as a Senator for 8 years, Secretary of the State for 4 years and over a decade in public services. By not having political experience, Trump will think with from a business perspective, going for the greediness and often favoring the corporate side. Many citizens commonly view the American political system as a wild horse controlled by the Constitution, a comprehensive document written by the framers. They reference the intent of the Founding Fathers, specifically, how they would be ashamed of the modern presidency. However, in actuality, the Founding Fathers would not only recognize but also approve of the modern presidency because it is largely what they expected. At the time of the Founding Fathers, the American citizens recognized that the Articles of Confederation, which had laid the foundation for the United States needed to be significantly altered.…

Third-Party Voting Is Not An Option More than any election before, voters want a viable third-party candidate. We have third-party candidates, of course, but none of them are going to win. The system of government we have set up completely blocks any third-party candidate from even having a chance of winning. Even candidates that aren’t a third party candidate and win the majority vote, Al Gore, for example, aren’t guaranteed to win. In 2000, Al Gore won the majority vote for most states, but because of the electoral college, Bush won the election overall.…

The election procedure of the Presidential candidate includes the votes from the citizens towards the Electoral College and the votes of the Electoral members towards the election of the Presidential candidate. It is also evident that without the majority of the votes from the Electoral members the decision cannot be made. In such circumstances, the Senate and the House Representatives finally select the Presidential candidate from the nominees. Therefore, the election system does not provide opportunity to the other political factions with different ideologies other than democracy to enter the election system appropriately. Therefore it is clear that the practice of Electoral College decentralizing the background for the national administrative, in respect to the global tendency to direct election has made the United States fall behind the international developments in presidential…
