"Sustainable development" is development that "meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." It's about maintaining or sustaining something. Sustainability is important because all the choices we pursue and all the actions that we make today will affect everything in the future. We need to make sound decisions at present in order to avoid limiting the choices of generations to come. Today, we also notice that our resources are limited and we need to maintain sustainable human and environmental resources for the next generations to come.
