Elearning Argument Analysis

I have to say that writing my topic and working thesis for everyone in the class to see last week was a little intimidating. My topic was already a subject that some people might frown upon, so I was unsure of myself. After I read the feedback from my professor (Kristen) and my classmate (Chanda) I felt better about my topic. Kristen and Chanda had great feedback that will be incorporated into my narrative essay. There were also some feedback that I will probably have to pass on to make the essay flow seamlessly. The eLearning was also a great tool to have when ironing out some of the details for my essay.
Although, I did not have a lot of my classmates comment on my discussion the two people that did provided helpful feedback. The most helpful

At first glance, the author’s argument appears to be somewhat appealing, but a close examination will reveal how groundless it is. The author of this article concludes that better times are coming for all academic job seekers in the future. To support his conclusion, he states several reasons that the job opportunities will increase. However, I do not think the argument is logically convincing because of three critical flaws. First of all, the author makes a hasty generalization.…

Technology is changing our lives and whether we like it or not we find ourselves having to go along with it. Writers, readers, composers, researchers and so on need to find a way to adapt to the change that comes with what we call “The Technology Era”. As always there will be two sides to any change; the one that will agree with it and open their arms to it, and a second that will forever talk about how great times used to be when things were done the only way they know to do things because they do not like change or cannot adapt to new. Nicholas Carr (2008) states “I’m not thinking the way I used to think. I can feel it most strongly when I’m reading.…

Michael Green presented a very interesting Ted Talk this week, proposing the use of wood in architecture and landscaping, rather than using steel and concrete. Mr. Green made a couple convincing arguments about the benefit of using wood when it comes to our architecture. For example, wood can give a warm feeling to a building. Mr. Green stated “you would not walk into a building and hug steel”, but more people would want to walk in and touch the wooden structures in his buildings. I can relate to Mr. Green argument of a building material can give a certain feel to the environment.…

The PBS documentary Big Time Loser was screened for us during class on February 9. Big Time Loser is, in essence, an in-depth examination of the inner workings of the intercollegiate sports industry. In the midst of its thorough examination of collegiate sports, the documentary also manages to raise the question of whether or not our nation’s current approach to collegiate sports is fair and ethical for everyone involved. More specifically it questions whether it is fair for student-athletes to be expected to devoted so much time and effort to an activity that some deem to be antithetical to their education. In a similar manner, the documentary questions if it is proper for universities to invest so much time and resources to activities that…

The fine-tuning argument for God’s existence is a version of the teleological argument. This argument states that there is a need of an explanation for why the universe is the way it is. The argument claims that the way the universe is confirms the theory that there is an intelligent creator/being otherwise known as God. The reason so is because that intelligent creator/being created the universe with purpose of their being life and that life being supported. This then brings up the question what about the universe needs an explanation?…

In chapter 3 “The Layout of Arguments” of The Uses of Argument, Toulmin talks about how to write an argument. He includes several models throughout the chapter, and each of them gets longer as he begins to discuss more. The final model is composed of datum or data, claim, warrant, qualifiers, rebuttal, backing of warrants. Datum is the fact or the ground that start the argument, while claim is the statement that one can reason out from the datum, and hopes that people will accept it. Warrant is the middleman between datum and claim.…

The Problem of Evil argument focuses on the fact the existence of evil in the universe contradicts with God’s existence. I challenge the soundness of the argument, especially two particular premises which deal with omnipotence and omnibenevolence. The argument is largely considered a valid or logical argument. To examine the validity of the argument, it is necessary, first, to define the term “God” in the argument.…

The main emphasis of this reading is the concept of different type of writing for different type of occasions. The authors’ argument is based on the idea that grammar is not the fundamental for a good piece of writing. It argues that the author should write based on the audience, it wants to convey its attention towards. Types of writing differ based on the subject you are writing about.
