The significance about the famous Eldorado episode is there no religious intolerance. The land of Eldorado are free of religious differences. The people of Eldorado have one religion. Candide and Cacambo was so anxious about the country religion they began to ask questions about prayer, priests, and of course, religion. For example, “Cacambo asked meekly what was the religion of Eldorado.” The old man response and says, “Can there be two religions? he asked. I suppose our religion is the same as everyone’s, we worship God from morning to evening” (Voltaire p.36). This quote provides a great example of how naïve Candide and Cacambo were in their society.
