The types of abuse explained by the program are; physical, sexual, domestic violence, psychological, financial abuse and neglect. The client population of the program is the elder population from all backgrounds; gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation and other characteristics are respected. Some of the psychotherapeutic intervention is the Cognitive behavioral therapy, this type of therapy aims to reduce trauma, stress and tension that was caused from the maltreatment. The cognitive behavioral therapy has shown positive effect on the clients by helping them cope with their problem. Another type of intervention is the psychosocial therapies; the clients must show evident improvement within 6-8 weeks in order to determine the efficacy of the intervention. The cognitive behavioral therapy aims to eradicate pessimistic thoughts of themselves, and on the other hand it concentrates on pleasant activities that decreases their depression. There are physical indicators such as noticeable loss or gain in weight, elevated blood pressure. The behavioral indicators of elder abuse is when the elder person isolates themselves, lack of sleep, becomes upset, depressed or agitated and in some cases is nonresponsive. Another fact that I found interesting is that culture has an important role when it comes to how the elder responds to the abuse, because in some cultures it is seen as an acceptable behavior. This program is associated with other committees that share the same goal of educating the public about the elder abuse and preventing it.
