As the population of older adults is increasing, due to low fertility rates and increasing life expectancy, elder abuse cases are unfortunately on the rise as well. As nurses, especially those of us who plan on going into long-term clinics and working there it is very important for us to know what to do if we come across a situation where an elder is being abused. In this paper I will be analyzing two articles on elder abuse and I will explain in depth five key points of both articles also how I can relate what I learned from these two articles to my own nursing practice and speaking on how I can relate both essays to some Jean Watson’s theories.

Another key point is that we should familiarize ourselves with ourselves with the policy and the procedures we must follow when an incident of adult abuse happens in our area because these policies may or may not change in different areas so its very important for us to educate ourselves and ask our supervisors for what policy to follow when we come across a situation in which we feel like a vulnerable adult is being mistreated, not just in that case we should familiarize ourselves with the policy so out of ignorance we don’t do anything that would be considered abuse in the policy such as not letting the patient chose his care that can be something we can overlook that is considered breaking the policy (Patterson, 2014). My third key point that I was able to pull from this article is that abuse isn’t always just physical and hitting and elder, but it
