1. A Panamanian town known as El Valle de Anton, used to have an abundance of a species called the golden frog. Then, when humans began migrating from region to region, the spread of a fungus called Chytrid began to take shape. As the fungus spread, the amphibian population began to dwindle. El Valle de Anton is important because it shows how a mass extinction can occur from the spread of a fungus, all because of human travel. It is important to stop the spread of this fungus to keep amphibians away from extinction.
2. A Uniformitarian thinks that a species can perish during a long and slow period of time. Also, the species still has the possibility to make a …show more content…
Ammonites are an extinct marine mollusc animal. They are successful and unsuccessful over their duration of evolution. Their shells prove to be a successful part of their evolution because it gave them the ability to be protected from predators. Also, their shells helped them to travel around and expand for better survival. The asteroid is the unsuccessful part of their evolution, since it just completely obliterated the ammonite species as a whole

6. The Biosphere 2 was significant in understanding the impact of CO2 on coral reefs by examining the Ph levels and change in the ocean. CO2 has a great effect on the marine life due to its response with water. As the ocean lowers in Ph, due to higher CO2 levels, the ocean becomes more acidic harming coral reefs. The alteration in the acidity in the ocean makes the coral unable to take in the adequate bulk of calcium chloride. Not only does this harm the reef itself, but also the organisms in it. Without the coral being able to sustain life, the organisms that rely on it will …show more content…
The Species Area Relationship is an equation that conveys the connection between the growth of a species with more immense area. The formula is S = cA^z. The S represents the quantity of species, A is area, and the constants are c and z. This design was utilized in the BDFFP, or Biological Dynamics of Forest Fragments Project. They found during tests taken in Brazil, that the larger the space, the more species present.
10. The evolutionary arms race is a battle between a host and a pathogen/virus. Both “race” each other and try to outdo the other. This begins when “a new pathogen shows up,... the new host has no defense against it”(Kolbert 204). This demonstrates that when a new pathogen shows up, it will attempt to get the most out of it’s host. For example, when the Chytrid fungus appeared onto the golden frog’s domain, the frogs couldn't do anything to fight it. The frogs ended up dying because of this Chytrid fungus and the population plummeted. The arms race can be detrimental to a species
