These following reasons are why I chose to do a comic strip as my project: Those who celebrate the Day of the Dead use humor and ridicule to confront death and say that they aren’t afraid. They may also use humor so that Death loses some of its terror. It isn’t rude, but to help them feel better about the situation that they’re in. Humor is such a big part in Día de los Muertos because they must be positive to celebrate this day. This day is a time for laughter and happiness, not a day for sadness and crying, that is why humor plays such a huge part in Día de los Muertos. Without it, there would be nothing to celebrate because nobody would have any happiness to even honor their loved ones who have passed. Through those reasons and because I love drawing as well as making up stories, I decided to make a comic strip. Through this comic, humor can be conveyed which is symbolized as happiness and positivity for those who celebrate El Día de los Muertos. So, what I have learned about El Día de los Muertos are that the people aren’t sad on this holiday, instead they are happy and celebrate to honor those who are deceased. They honor those who have died by throwing parties, drinking, and making special foods. They also use skulls and skeletons to be conveyed as enjoying life instead of fear for their loved ones. They don’t fear death as they say it is part of the cycle that is life.
