El Castillo temple at Chichen, Itza, is known for the temple and structure you see on the outside but is hardly known for what is on the inside or underneath. In recent studies archeologist have discovered another smaller temple inside the original El Castillo temple. To find the other pyramid inside archeologist have used a modern electrical imagined technology called tri-dimensional electric resistivity tomography also known as ERT-3D. The “first structure may be in the "pure Maya" style from between 500 and 800 A.D.” (Stevenson) and was originally discovered back in 1930. More interesting the style seems to be pure Mayan and if further researched it can possibly tell us more about the first people who lived there. After finding the smaller temple inside there have been claims that there was not only one but two pyramids inside El Castillo so three pyramids total. This was found not using ERT but while digging into the intermediate layer of El Castillo and the tunnels to explore this are very unstable and shows that the pyramids are not aligned with El Castillo.

They did have some issues with ERT- 3D because the space was so tight it could not capture everything. To properly get the imaged they had to put electrodes on each of El Castillo 10 levels which includes the ground level where the pyramid sits, but only certain levels were sufficient enough to use.
