Why Is Imagination More Important Than Knowledge

Einstein is a famous scientist who believed “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” Though he was a scientist who used knowledge in his everyday life, he believed in the power of imagination. Some of Einstein’s other quotes justify how “imagination is more important than knowledge.” For example, he once said “Knowledge is limited, but imagination encircles the world.” Everybody has the ability to learn, but you can only acquire so much information. However, imagination is not a skill you are taught, it is a quality you are born with. I agree with this quote because imagination provides you you with an unlimited number of opportunities. In school students sit at desk and memorize historical dates, mathematical equations, and science facts, but could there be a better way to learn information. Many schools do not require students to “think outside the box,” or to think creatively. The desk you sit at, and the pen you write with, all originated from an idea. Something as complex as an airplane, or as simple as a highlighter was created by a person’s imagination. Imagination is not only used to invent new products, but imagination is also used to make new discoveries. For example, the greek philosopher, Democritus, combined common knowledge and imagination to create the atomic theory. He did not have proof to support his claim, but he thought outside the box, and made an evolutionary discovery. Centuries later his theory is still being used. This goes to show that imagination changes how we think. If we acknowledge the power of imagination the possibilities are endless. You could create a time machine, or be the next Thomas Edison, but that will never happen if you only rely on facts and data. Sometimes the world uses knowledge when it should be using
