Goffman says that the world is like a stage and we perform everyday to certain audience. Performance was a way I am supposed act to influence the way people think about me. (15) The audiences that I was performing too were Muslims of all ages that went to the eid prayer. I was following a script to talk and act in a certain way in front of the audience. The script I followed was written by society. Society has norms and I had to follow the norms to make sure that I gave the right impression to the audience. To make sure I didn’t mess up my identity I had to manage my impression. Impression management is the way I control the information I give or do not give to others by the things I say or by my body language (15). The things I say or the way I say it is the expression I give (2) and my body language is the expression given (2).
To give off the right expression I had moments of dramatization and idealization. Dramatization is a when I had to follow the all the expectations to play the role correctly. (30) Idealization is when I had an image in my head about the way my parents act at the mosque and I tried to perform in the same way.
