In 2011, Dr. Dr. Jonathan Tolentino an internal medicine and pediatrics physician at the University of Cincinnati (UC) Internal Medicine and Pediatrics practiceWeb Site Disclaimers, a hospital-based clinic in Cincinnati, Ohio, practice adopted an EHR system to participate in the Greater Cincinnati Beacon Community Program. As part of the Program, Dr. Tolentino and his colleagues needed to interface with UC Hospital’s health information exchange (HIE). One important part of the HIE was the Emergency Department/Admission Alert System (ED Alert System). The ED Alert System notifies the clinic when one of its patients has an Emergency Department (ED) or hospital admission, then allows the clinic to follow the patient through discharge and ensures …show more content…
If Facebook and other social network has notification for updated the people how come the healthcare system has not yet come with one alert that everyone in the health care system could use. Having the alert system could increase breast cancer screening rate, diabetic and depression screening rate depends on the facility. For the study, researchers followed 40 primary care physicians at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago who implemented the EHR alert system. After one year of using the system, researchers found that: The percentage of heart disease patients receiving cholesterol-lowering medications rose from 87% to 93%; the percentage of patients receiving pneumonia vaccinations increased from 80% to 90%; and the percentage of patients receiving colon cancer screenings increased from 57% to 62% (Merrill, Healthcare IT News, 12/22).
