My view on ENGR 1000 During my first freshman semester as a student of UCONN, my point of view of what is like to be an engineer haven’t change at all. I took the class ENGR 1000 because it was part of the curriculum to graduate as an engineer, but it was also intended to give clues and ideas of the different areas that are within the engineer field. I learned some useful things with my professor, but also from my peers. Even do the majority of my class wanted to become computer/system engineers, I and everyone in the class of ENGR 1000 shared many similarities when it comes to knowledge and the use of technology as a tool to solve real world problem, and build things that would help the whole humanity today and in the near future. The cost is the first thing people many runners look at. The Forerunner 10 is $129.99, while the cost of the Forerunner 225 is $299.99.…

Engineering is widely regarded as not only a rigorous course of study, but also as a centerpiece for the development of the industrialized world. As the global market becomes increasingly competitive, institutions of higher education around the world continually make efforts to prepare their students for the quickly-advancing field of engineering. Through different approaches, countries around the world succeed and through their efforts we advance as a global society in our technology. Of the many approaches taken to education, one discussed by Martha Nussbaum in her piece, Education for Profit, Education for Democracy as the “single-subject model,” is characterized as an education that is structured and focuses for the most part on developing only one area of study. While it is subject to criticism by Nussbaum, it is well-worth considering how thorough structure, subject-focused study, and specified funding are assets to the…

Are Colleges worth the Price of Admission? Every parent wants the best for their children, and they want their children to go and study in college, in order to get a dream career. Now days it’s not a cinch as the costs of colleges are rising, and quality of education is dropping. In the article ‘‘Are Colleges worth the Price of Admission’’, by Andrew Hacker and Claudia Dreifus, the underlying thesis is simple: college is too expensive, and return on investment of college is rapidly decreasing, constraining some extreme changes in order for college to remain practical and logical for potential college students.…

At Texas A&M, undergraduates and graduates wanting to get a higher education go by the Aggie Code of Honor, “An Aggie does not lie, cheat or steel or tolerate those who do.” (Texas A&M). This quote is one thing Aggies follow and hold very dearly and close them. As I almost complete my undergraduate degree at Texas A&M I understand the Aggie honor code more and more each day as to what it means to me. To me the Aggie honor code is important because it allows me to be proud of a college campus that not only provides a higher education, but a university that provides great communication and network between all students and also be respected all around the world by the great Aggie Network and that till this day and in the future will always be…

Fall of 2013 I started the Early College Alliance, otherwise known as ECA. For those who do not know, when you first start ECA you take High School level classes, with other High Schoolers during your first semester. After teachers review your progress you’ll either be placed in College classes, because you’re what they call, “College Ready,” or you’ll take another semester of High School classes. During my second year of ECA, I was placed in EMU College classes. During this time I was exposed to an environment in which I was interacting with adults in a classroom setting, versus being in school with students in my age group.…

Since graduating from Weber State University (WSU) with a Bachelors of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology (BSEET) in 2010, I have been working as an engineer in many capacities. Recently, I was promoted to a technical leadership position, and have realized that most engineers will face the decision in their careers to stay technical or to pursue a management path. It is because of my desire to delve deeper into the technical aspects of my work that I am applying for admissions to the Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) program at the University of Utah. My first exposure to the field of Electrical Engineering came while serving in the U.S. Air Force. There, I learned basic concepts about circuits and systems, and had the opportunity to work with engineers.…
