Could you imagine living a life with constant pain? Many people in life never get the chance to take a single step causing them to live their life in wheel chairs, braces or other medical required equipment everyday throughout life. Some may never even know what it is like to see or feel because they may have been less fortunate. However, there are times where individuals may seem just like any other person but deep down inside; they are traumatized by a pain that is indescribable. Not all medical conditions are noticeable by the naked eye, some are much more causing pain throughout the body. Skin problems, musculoskeletal pain and cardiovascular issues are three ways people live their lives with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

The cardiovascular system problems that develop due to Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome do not discriminate against age. At any age, a person that has been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome can develop valvular heart disease. What does this mean you ask? Valvular heart disease is when “a valve thickens from the aberrant collagens deposition, defective development and failure of cardiovascular system functions fail” (Melis 4). Along with valvular heart disease, another symptom that can arise is postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome is when the blood volume becomes reduced while standing up. Although it is rare to develop postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome there have been cases where people have develop the syndrome along with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
