Apart from being a naturally talented singer, listening to music is something that always puts a smile on my face. Since I was young, I had always had an undying interest in music. Though certain genres of music don’t necessarily appeal to me, i.e. rap, the general existence of music makes me happy. Writing music isn’t my strong suit, nor is playing musical instruments; I am self-taught in piano. I had been in school choirs from sixth to twelfth grade. Performing is something I just love to do, in a group or as a soloist. When I began high school at Stagg, I wanted to be in an acapella group; an afterschool, audition only choir. After three years of auditioning and being rejected, I finally made it in my senior year. The experience wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be, but it was still a major accomplishment. Eleven days before my sixth birthday, my father got into a motorcycle accident. He had died a few days later in the hospital after being brain dead. A year later, at seven years old, I was diagnosed with depression. Ever since then, life has been difficult. Staying happy, even when I wasn’t sure that I could, in my opinion, is the main part of being a strong person. Life is always a battle, no matter who you are, there have been things in life that have knocked you down. Unfortunately, the death of my father has brought up multiple issues, mentally and emotionally, in my own life. But the silver lining to that tragedy is that I’m okay.
