The Ronald McDonald House is a charity house that keeps families close to their family members that are being treated at a nearby hospital. We spoke with someone who works at the House and she told us that eight families were there on that day. We were able to see some people and did what we could to help out.…

Volunteering at Veterans Affairs Medical Center was one of the greatest experience I've ever had. Sitting down with the elderly and getting to know them, I noticed if more teens could actually sit down and take the time to talk to an elderly person they could gain an opulent amount of knowledge. Sitting down and getting to talk an innumerable amount of veterans as I could, I was intrigued by how each person had a story of their own going through WWII. Voluntarily, I was able to contribute to the organization by having open conversations with the veterans, providing beverages, and having a great time. It wasn't till the end of the program when my perception began to change about the organization I volunteered for, it's more than just about kids…

A couple days before the Service Hours Project was due, Mr. Wetzell said something that I never would've thought of. He said that our country was made up of people volunteering. From free African-Americans joining the army, to young children helping out at their local homeless shelter, we have built the pillars for which America is to stand on.…

Jon Krakauer’s novel, Into The Wild, presents the question, to what extent is community essential to happiness? Based on the actions illustrated by the main character, Chris Mccandless and humans in general, it’s fair to say that we don’t need people in order to be happy. Community can be defined as, “A feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.” As humans, we are so diverse and unique that we sometimes can’t find a community where our goals, interest or attitudes are reciprocated by others. Though society does believe we need relationships with parents, mentors and friends to be happy; Chris showed that we did not need these relationships to be happy.…

A community environment serves an important function in shaping our personal development and belief system. The community an individual grows up in says a lot about that individual as a person. With strengths, comes weaknesses and every community differs in many ways. The community I grew up in may differ from the community others lived in, and that’s what makes us all unique and different from one another. No matter if you live on Grand View Drive or you live on the south side of Chicago each community has its different problems, and just because someone may live in a different neighborhood than you doesn’t mean you are complete polar opposites it just means you experience obstacles differently in your daily routine and that is completely…
