Egg Drop Research Paper

Decent Essays
Our egg drop project consisted of a very minimal amount of items. We used a toilet paper roll, cotton balls, two straws, a plastic bag, and some duct tape to hold everything together. The plastic bag that we used was supposed to be our parachute that would increase the time it would take for the egg to hit the ground. The increased amount of time would lower the speed which leads to lowering the amount of kinetic energy and the amount of force that hits the ground. During the actual egg drop, the parachute didn’t even open and had no actual effect on the kinetic energy, but the parachute did allow the toilet paper to land vertically and this helped to protect the egg better for we had placed the egg at the top of the toilet paper close to

    Hypertonic Egg Lab Report

In this experiment I attempted to created and study the affects of a egg in a hypertonic and hypotonic solution. To conduct this experiment I used the following materials: cups, eggs, vinegar, corn syrup, spoons and food coloring. To begin the experiment I placed three eggs in vinegar to dissolve their shells, leaving behind a thin membrane that allowed water to pass in and out of the eggs. The water molecules enter inside the eggs and the eggs begins to swell. Once the eggs have sat in the vinegar for two days I removed one from the vinegar, washed the eggs and placed it in the corn syrup.…

Maple Syrup n’ Water Reactions Lab In the egg osmosis lab, we set out to see the reactions that the egg had when placed in maple syrup or placed in distilled/pure water. Osmosis is when a solution attempts to bring itself to equilibrium by moving from a high concentration area to an area of low concentration, and in this lab; the egg attempted to bring itself to an area of low concentration. Secondly, hypotonic is an area of a solution that has low concentration, in contraire; hypertonic is an area of high concentration, in this lab the distilled water was hypotonic and the maple syrup was hypertonic. The distilled water was hypotonic because it allowed the liquid from the egg to move to it and the maple syrup was hypertonic because the egg…

Osmosis and Diffusion Egg Lab In this lab, an egg is used as a representation of an actual cell, the shell being the cell wall, and the yolk being the nucleus, which like an actual cell also expands when placed in a substance like water, and shrinks when placed in a thick substance like corn syrup. I hypothesize that water will make the egg hypotonic, which means that the cell is swollen due to an excess of water in its environment and corn syrup will make the egg hypertonic, which is the shriveling of a cell due to a lack of water and or salt in a solution (Crowe, 2016). Then soaking it in water, and later corn syrup after the 24 hour period of soaking in water and other shorter increments of time. The purpose of this lab is to see osmosis…

The Easter Island or Isla de Pascua covers roughly 64 square miles in the South Pacific Ocean 2,300 miles from Chiles west coast. It currently has 887 still existing statues averaging 13 feet tall carved out of tuff which is the light, porous rock formed by consolidated volcanic ash on the island which proved that there was a rich culture among the settlers which first discovered it. These staues were placed on ceremonial stone platforms called ahus however till this day there is no information on why these statues were created in such numbers and scale in addition to how were they even moved throughout the island. During the middle stages of the islands discovery (1050- 1680) the ahus also contained burial chambers and the images portrayed…

Method: In this experiment each group received 2 chicken eggs whose shells have been dissolved off. This gave us a differentially permeable membrane so that we can observe osmosis and what happens when the membrane is presented with different solutions. Since we did not know the concentration of the egg, we had to assume that it equaled the concentration of the membrane. We then had the ability to determine the concentration based off the assumption and the rate of osmosis.…

The egg-drop challenge was an success, for some people. Before the process of making the egg-drop for the project it was difficult because you had to make sure you had something protecting the egg. I made mines out of cardboard and popsicle sticks. The egg broke mainly because I had the parachute wrong because the parachute had a hole inside of it. I watched different people drop their eggs and like 90/100 eggs were broken.…

The purpose of this experiment was to understand osmosis, however, the deeper importance was that it could be compared to a real cell in our body. The egg in this lab can represent a red blood cell. When cells such as red blood cells are placed in pure water, water enters them through osmosis and they swell up. If this continues for a long period of time, they have a great chance of bursting. On the other hand, when cells are placed in a lower concentrated solution, water leaves them through osmosis and they are unable to function (BBC).…

In her academic article, “The Egg and the Sperm: How Science Has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male-Female Roles”, Emily Martin, explains in great depth the consequences that personifying science will have on society. Martin describes the inequalities between men and women that are displayed in science textbooks. The imbalances are shown most often when describing the scientific explanation of conception. Martin analyzes numerous scientific works and identifies numerous differences between describing female and male natural bodily functions, including sperm production, menstruation, conception and many other natural occurrences. Martin uses several logical fallacies and the Aristotelian appeals to solidify her argument, which…

Extensions of the Honey Bees Honeybees help produce 35% of all food in the world and have been around for millions of years. Yet, in recent decades, the honeybee population has been decreasing dramatically. On average a beekeeper will report 20% of annual losses, up to 90% on some occasions. Researchers have found that several factors have been causing the decrease in the honeybee population; a loss of habitat, introduction of new chemicals into the ecosystem, increase in the hive size and the rapid spread of diseases. Loss of Habitat…

We came up with the hypothesis that the egg would expand or break. The independent variable for this would be the corn syrup and the egg will be the dependent variable. We believed the egg would expand, because looking at what the other liquids, the made the egg expand. When the fourth day came around we observed that the egg had a dent, it felt very soft and felt lighter than before. It now weighed 64.92 grams, just a few grams less than the initial weight.…

The multiple uses enable eggs to be made into custards, souffles, and hard cooked or soft boiled eggs. One experiment conducted was comparing the effects of the cooking time for hard boiled eggs. Another experiment conducted was seeing the effects of cooking scrambled eggs in hot and cold oil, a double broiler, and the microwave.…

Proteins aid in the cultivation of various bacteria whereas it is one of the basic growth components in bacterial cultivation. Moreover, the presence of cholesterol in vivo aids in nurturing bacteria and allow it entry into host cells. (Tille, 2013). Table 2 Nutritive Value of Duck egg compared to Chicken egg.…
