Egg Drop Competition Case Study

Decent Essays
In the Egg Drop competition, we chose a small box filled with cotton and cotton cloth. We chose this design because we predicted that it would be light and very durable during the egg drop. We also thought that the design would be very safe since it was a small object with very soft cloth and cotton to keep the egg from breaking. This design also decreased the force applied to the egg because of the cotton surrounding the egg top and bottom and all around. While the cloth, kept the egg in place so, that it would not move all over the box and break.

In this experiment I attempted to created and study the affects of a egg in a hypertonic and hypotonic solution. To conduct this experiment I used the following materials: cups, eggs, vinegar, corn syrup, spoons and food coloring. To begin the experiment I placed three eggs in vinegar to dissolve their shells, leaving behind a thin membrane that allowed water to pass in and out of the eggs. The water molecules enter inside the eggs and the eggs begins to swell. Once the eggs have sat in the vinegar for two days I removed one from the vinegar, washed the eggs and placed it in the corn syrup.…

Discussion For lab 2, our group has a hard time working on some part. There were several mistakes, which hold us for the entire hour. First, writing code wasn’t bad, but the error made in the code takes time to debug it. And even for the pin planner, we had assigned a wrong pin on some output/input, which also take time to re-assign it. Building and Testing Truth Tables (Concurrent logic)…

The Great Golf Ball Dilemma- Will *All calculations are rounded* This maths investigation explored the best way to package six golf balls and to recommend to the manager of a sports manufacturing company Supreme Sports. The task was to test two designs, a cylindrical box and a rectangular box, under the criteria of wasting minimal space and also the least cost the company. This testing would occur by using the knowledge of surface area and volume using formulas to find out the mathematical answer. The overall most efficient design will be recommended to the manager of the company for production.…

Once the egg was decalcified, it felt very fragile and bouncy. When the egg didn’t have a shell anymore, it was kept from seeping out by the “plasma membrane” (egg white), which was congealed by the soaking in vinegar. When the nucleus of the egg became visible, it looked very cloudy. The substance that entered/left the egg in each situation was water, due to the state of the egg, by way of osmosis, in a way of trying to balance the inside and outside the “cell” (egg), this balance is essential to functioning at the preferred isotonic state. This lab could be improved by using 2 different eggs, as the data seemed inaccurate when placing a hypotonic egg into a solution of corn syrup made the egg hypertonic, because there wasn’t a proper start weight in the egg when placed in the second solution.…

In the experiment, I tested how soapy water would affect the amount of droplets the penny can hold. The results of my experiment show that the penny holds less droplets of soap water. When the soap is added to the water, the soap collides with water breaking down the tension. As a result, it harder for the droplets to hold together. To find whether my hypothesis was right, I did several of trials to figure out whether my hypothesis was correct.…

Method: In this experiment each group received 2 chicken eggs whose shells have been dissolved off. This gave us a differentially permeable membrane so that we can observe osmosis and what happens when the membrane is presented with different solutions. Since we did not know the concentration of the egg, we had to assume that it equaled the concentration of the membrane. We then had the ability to determine the concentration based off the assumption and the rate of osmosis.…

Abstract: The official material used in table tennis balls was changed from celluloid to plastic, a material free of celluloid, in 2014. The purpose of this study was to understand the differences and similarities between these two types of ball materials by comparing their behavior upon collision with a table tennis table to aid serious table tennis players. The behavior of the balls before and after collision with a table, at various initial speeds ranging from 15 to 115 km/h, was captured using high-speed cameras. Velocity and spin rates before collision, along with velocity and spin rates after collision, were computed to calculate the coefficients of restitution and friction. Based on the computed variables, the post-collision trajectories…
