The efficiency of memory usually begins to degenerate after people are over 30 years old because of the circle of brain’s cognitive performances (Svoboda, 2009). Each cognitive performance is changed with increasing age. Some cognitive performance is generated in older people, such as Semantic memory, Crystallized intelligence, and Emotional reasoning (Yue, 2013). On the other hand, older people have some degenerate cognitive performance, which are mostly related to memory, such as Recall, Episodic memory, Processing speed, and Divided attention (Yue, 2013). Therefore, people attempt to improve their memory before they are old. In addition, enhancing memory can be done by modifying one’s life style, such as modifying dietary habits, doing more …show more content…
According to the Chicago Health and Aging Project, they introduce that people should consume vegetable at least two cups per day because many kinds of vegetable have ability to improve memory, and contain antioxidants, which help to prevent and slow cell damage (Neville, 2009). For instance, eggplants’ s skin has Nasunin that is a substance to encourage communication between brain cells to improve memory and concentration (Chauhan, 2013). Broccoli contains vitamin K which is a substance that can boost brain power (Chauhan, 2013). Another kind of vegetable is cauliflower which contains Choline that improve frontal lobe of the brain and the function of frontal lobe is known for memory. There are many kinds of vitamin that improve memory, especially vitamin B12, vitamin E, and Omega 3. For older people, they usually have lower vitamin B12 levels in their body, and the low quantity of vitamin B12 in the body can cause weakness, memory loss, and decrease efficient nervous system (Neville, 2009). Vitamin E can remain the efficiency of brain, as it contains a powerful antioxidant, improve the immune system, and prevent dementia (Thalheimer, 2016). Lacking in vitamin E can cause neurological damage, so scientists suggest that people should get vitamin E around 15 milligrams per day to prevent the damage (Thalheimer, 2016).
